WhatsApp launches a username field for new contacts

On Android and iOS, WhatsApp has introduced a new field for the contact creation screen that lets users save a contact's username alongside their name. The field appears in the same screen where users fill in the name and phone number of a new contact. Users who already have a username can tell new people and businesses to save it in their WhatsApp Contacts.

The new design replaces the old shortcuts with a new reply bar. WhatsApp is introducing a home screen widget for voice messages on Android, so users can record and send a voice note without opening a specific chat. The widget opens a dedicated recording screen with controls to pause, resume, discard, or confirm the recording. Once they record the voice note, users can share it with one or more recipients at once.
