WhatsApp is rolling out Liquid Glass design for the video player

WhatsApp is introducing a refreshed look for the video player with the Liquid Glass design on iOS. WhatsApp is adapting the progress bar with the same translucent, glass-like appearance already applied to other elements of the interface. WhatsApp was working on Liquid Glass for the video player and drawing editor

In the post about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.33.10.18 update, we announced new updates for Liquid Glass. In particular, WhatsApp was working on bringing the Liquid Glass design to the drawing editor and the video player. For the drawing editor, WhatsApp planned to update the interface at the top of the screen to support the Liquid Glass style. For the video player, WhatsApp was working on refreshing the progress bar with the same translucent appearance. With these updates, WhatsApp is getting close to completing the transition to Liquid Glass.

WhatsApp is bringing Liquid Glass to the video player

WhatsApp is finally bringing a new Liquid Glass update to the video player. In particular, WhatsApp is refining the design for the progress bar, making the video player compatible with Liquid Glass. We discovered this with the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.39.10.70 update, which is available on TestFlight. With this update, WhatsApp is rolling out the Liquid Glass design for the video player to some beta testers.

What the progress bar for the video player looks like with Liquid Glass

With the latest update, WhatsApp is adopting the progress bar with the same translucent, glass-like appearance available in other sections of the app. The progress bar appears as a floating element at the top of the screen with a translucent background and rounded corners. In light mode, the background is white with a glass-like layout. In dark mode, the background turns dark. Note that WhatsApp is also refreshing the control bar at the bottom of the screen. This makes the interface more immersive and consistent with the Liquid Glass design language introduced since iOS 26.

Why the progress bar is the element that needed an update

Over the years, WhatsApp has never refreshed the look of the video player. While WhatsApp adopted the chat bar, navigation bar, message menu, and message bubbles with the new design, the progress bar in the video player never received the same update. For users who had the full Liquid Glass interface, the video player was the one screen that still looked different. This update finally makes the video player feel consistent with the full Liquid Glass design.

How this update fits into the broader Liquid Glass rollout

WhatsApp gradually updated the app's interface after Apple introduced Liquid Glass with iOS 26. In particular, WhatsApp introduced the same Liquid Glass update to the chat list, the tab bar, the navigation bar, and the message menu. The video player progress bar is one of the last elements to receive the update. With this update, the transition to Liquid Glass is very close to complete. However, more updates are coming soon.

The Liquid Glass update for the video player is also available on iPad and Mac

WhatsApp is not limiting the new update for the progress bar to iPhone. Finally, WhatsApp is rolling out the same Liquid Glass design for the video player on iPad and Mac as well. Users on those platforms can also see the refreshed progress bar with the glass-like appearance. This makes the video player experience consistent on all three Apple platforms. The update reflects the same design choices WhatsApp made for iPad and Mac earlier this year.

WhatsApp is rolling out Liquid Glass for the video player to some beta testers

The Liquid Glass design for the video player is available to some users who install the latest update from TestFlight. The latest version available on the App Store is also compatible with this feature. WhatsApp is rolling it out gradually, so not every beta tester will see the updated progress bar immediately. If the video player still shows the old design, users will have to wait for a future update to get it. WhatsApp has not announced when the update will be available in the stable version.
