WhatsApp rolled out Liquid Glass for the chat interface on iOS

In the post about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.25.10.16 update, we announced that the Liquid Glass design is available for the conversation screen. The chat bar became a floating element with a translucent, glass-like look, and the navigation bar turned transparent with a gradual blur effect. These changes finally bring the conversation screen up to date, long after other updates introduced the Liquid Glass design to other sections of the app. With this update, the chat interface was one of the last major sections to support Liquid Glass.

WhatsApp is now working on more Liquid Glass updates

The chat interface is not the last step of the Liquid Glass transition. WhatsApp is still refining the Liquid Glass design, and two more screens are now in the queue. We discovered the news with the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.33.10.18 update, which is available on TestFlight. Specifically, WhatsApp is working on new Liquid Glass updates for the drawing editor and the video player. This update will make it possible for users to experience a fully consistent Liquid Glass interface throughout the app.

WhatsApp will update the drawing editor to make its buttons compatible with Liquid Glass

The drawing editor allows users to annotate or edit photos, videos, and GIFs before sharing them. At the top of this screen, users can find some buttons to add text, draw, place stickers, and more. WhatsApp is now working on updating these buttons to match the Liquid Glass style in the future. This means that they will get the same translucent, glass-like look that other sections of the app already have. This change is subtle but consistent, since it brings the drawing editor in line with the visual language WhatsApp adopted throughout iOS 26.

WhatsApp will refresh the progress bar for the video player

The video player is another screen that will be compatible with the Liquid Glass design. When users open a video, they can see a progress bar at the top of the screen that shows the playback position. WhatsApp is now working on updating this progress bar to match the Liquid Glass design as well. Like the update for the drawing editor update, this is a refinement rather than a major redesign. WhatsApp is committed to offering a consistent interface, and the progress bar within the video player screen is the next element to reflect that.

These updates bring WhatsApp closer to full Liquid Glass compatibility

WhatsApp has been updating the app interface since iOS 26 introduced Liquid Glass. The chat list, the Updates tab, the sidebar, the chat interface: all of these have already received the update. At the moment, the drawing editor and the video player still look the same as before. Once these updates become available, WhatsApp will finally support Liquid Glass completely.

iOS 27 is pushing WhatsApp to finalize the Liquid Glass design

Apple has made clear that Liquid Glass is the design language for the future of iOS. With iOS 27 getting closer, apps that have not fully adopted it will start to look outdated. As a result, WhatsApp is working to make the interface compatible with Liquid Glass in any section of the app. The drawing editor and video player updates are part of this project. These may be small details, but they are exactly what it takes to get the app fully ready.

WhatsApp is bringing Liquid Glass to all its platforms

The Liquid Glass rollout is not limited to iPhone. We also reported that WhatsApp brought Liquid Glass to the iPad app and to the Mac app. Between those updates, the chat interface, and the drawing editor and video player improvements now in development, WhatsApp is fully supporting Liquid Glass on all its major apps. iPhone, iPad, and Mac follow the same design language once these final updates ship. Some users may still not see Liquid Glass on all screens yet, but with iOS 27 around the corner, the wait should not be long.

WhatsApp is developing these Liquid Glass improvements for a future iOS update

The new Liquid Glass updates for the drawing editor and the video player are currently under development on iOS. WhatsApp has not enabled them for beta testers yet. We expect WhatsApp to roll them out to beta testers in a future update. At the moment, WhatsApp has not shared an official timeline for their public release.
