MEDIA AUTO-DOWNLOAD SETTINGS

WhatsApp keeps working on new features for the Desktop app (electron version) even if we already have two native apps for Windows and macOS: since these new features introduced to the Desktop app will also be added to the web version, it makes perfect sense to keep developing features for the electron version.
After introducing a request account info on the web/desktop client some months ago, WhatsApp is now rolling out a useful feature that lets us manage how media auto-download works to some lucky beta testers on WhatsApp Desktop beta!

As you can see in this screenshot, it is really easy to discover if the feature is already enabled for your WhatsApp account: just open WhatsApp Settings and if media auto-download settings show up, it means you can already start to manage these options! Thanks to this section, you can manage auto-download settings for photos, videos, and documents. As always, voice notes are always automatically downloaded for the best messaging experience.

Note that these settings are not synced with your device since you may need different settings per device. In case you don’t have this feature, don’t worry: you do not need to reinstall the beta version of WhatsApp Desktop because this is not how things work and you have to wait for a future update where the rollout is wider for more users.

The feature that lets us manage media auto-download settings has been released to some lucky beta testers and it is rolling out to more accounts over the coming weeks.
