APPROVE NEW PARTICIPANTS
Last month, we announced that a new feature was available for some beta testers after installing the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.5.0.74 update: a new group setting that helps group admins manage their groups. With this feature, group admins can decide how approval works for new members of the group, and it definitely helps group admins ensure that only desired members are added to the group. Recently, the WhatsApp for iOS 23.7.83 update was released on the App Store and it brings this feature to some more users!
The official changelog still mentions new group features announced in the previous WhatsApp for iOS 23.6.74 update and the ability to create your own custom stickers, and it does not mention that the feature to manage this setting is available. However, we can confirm that this is rolling out to users on the stable release of the app, but you need to be a group admin to see it.
When this feature is enabled, new members must be approved by a group administrator before they can join the group, even if they used a group invite link, by reviewing the “Pending participants” section. When the feature is disabled, anyone can join a group by using an invite link without sending a private request to the admin. In the past, this was a serious issue for community admins as it could lead to spam messages asking the community admin to be added to the subgroup.
If you still don’t have one of the features released in this update, note that some accounts may receive them over the coming weeks, as noted in the official changelog. Please stay ahead by regularly updating WhatsApp from the App Store and the TestFlight app to get these features in the future in case you don’t have them after installing this update.
The group setting that helps group admins manage new participants is available for iOS users that install the latest update of WhatsApp from the App Store, and more people will be able to use it in the next releases of the app.
