WhatsApp expands Liquid Glass to more iOS users
In the post about the WhatsApp for iOS 26.14.76 update, we announced a further rollout of the Liquid Glass design. Liquid Glass brings a cleaner and more modern visual style on iOS 26. The interface is based on translucency and layered depth effects that align with the iOS 26 design language. The interface introduces semi-transparent elements that create a sense of depth, especially visible in the floating tab bar. Buttons and interactive components have also been redesigned with a soft, frosted glass appearance and more fluid animations. In addition, the keyboard and context menus now follow the same visual principles.
WhatsApp keeps refining Liquid Glass while monitoring performance
Liquid Glass is being rolled out gradually, as WhatsApp continues to monitor performance and refine the experience before expanding its availability further. As a result, more users are now starting to receive the updated interface with the latest versions on the App Store. At the same time, WhatsApp is also testing additional refinements to further enhance the look and feel of the Liquid Glass design. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.17.10.70 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that brings the Liquid Glass design to the chat interface.

Liquid Glass rollout still incomplete across WhatsApp
As you can see from the attached image, WhatsApp is currently testing an enhanced design compatible with Liquid Glass for the chat screen. Although this interface is under development and scheduled for release in a future update, it already aims to further make the app compatible with the Liquid Glass design language. At the moment, Liquid Glass is not yet available to 100% of users. This means that some users are still seeing the previous design. Additionally, even where Liquid Glass is available, WhatsApp has not yet applied it to the chat screen. This inconsistency suggests that Liquid Glass is not yet ready for a full release across the entire app.
WhatsApp to redesign the chat bar with Liquid Glass interface
In a future update, WhatsApp will address this issue by redesigning the chat interface. As mentioned in the post about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.7.10.74 update, WhatsApp is also working on bringing the Liquid Glass design to the chat bar. WhatsApp will still place the chat bar at the bottom of the screen, but it is presented as a floating element. Its background will use the translucent, glass-like material that dynamically reflects and refracts what is behind it. Even the button to quickly jump to the latest message in the conversation will be compatible with Liquid Glass. As a result, the bottom of the chat interface will completely align with the Liquid Glass design language.
WhatsApp to bring Liquid Glass design to the navigation bar in the chat screen
The chat bar is not the only element of the chat interface that WhatsApp plans to redesign. WhatsApp is also focusing on the navigation bar as part of the Liquid Glass update. Just like in other sections of the app, such as the chat list and the Updates tab, WhatsApp intends to make the navigation bar transparent within the chat interface. This change will help bring the conversation screen more in line with the Liquid Glass design language. Here, WhatsApp will also introduce a subtle fade effect. This means that any elements underneath the navigation bar, such as messages and the wallpaper, will remain softly visible. Note that the navigation bar in the chat screen might get further refinements ahead of the first rollout.
Liquid Glass release still depends on upcoming refinements of the chat interface
Liquid Glass is still not available to all WhatsApp users. Although WhatsApp has expanded availability in the past few weeks, the feature still has not reached 100% of users. This suggests that WhatsApp is holding back the full rollout until more elements fully support the new design language. Note that WhatsApp is also testing a voice note player compatible with Liquid Glass, as part of these refinements. For now, a full release will likely depend on both the redesigned chat bar and the updated voice note player being ready for stable deployment.
Liquid Glass for the chat interface is under development on iOS
The feature that brings the Liquid Glass design to the chat interface is currently under development, and it will be available in a future update. WhatsApp is refining the interface to ensure it properly aligns with Liquid Glass. Once testing is complete, WhatsApp will gradually rollout the new interface in the chat screen to select beta testers, making it possible to evaluate performance before a wider release.
