READ LATER

After releasing information about the Vacation Mode on Android, WhatsApp is now implementing a replacement for Archived Chats, called Read Later.
“Read Later” is an improved version of “Archived Chats”, that includes the Vacation Mode, to keep in your archive all archived chats, even when new messages arrive. But there is more: when a chat is in your “Read Later”, you won’t receive notifications from it.
Let’s discover all recent changes about the Vacation Mode on iOS.
The Read Later cell will be always visible in your chats list:

After opening Read Later, WhatsApp presents a new banner to explain the improvements:

This introduction explains that any archived chat will always stay in your archive (even if they are not muted), in order to reduce interruptions.
But there’s something else, too. WhatsApp is also introducing the Edit button in the “Read Later” section:

Note: Archived Chats will be called “Read Later”.

The Edit button shows two actions:

  • Select Chats, you can select more chats at once to quickly unarchive them.
  • Edit Archive Settings, to change how archived chats work.

The user can decide to disable the Vacation mode included in “Read Later” selecting Edit Archive Settings (or WhatsApp Settings > Chats) and enabling Move Chats in Read Later:

This feature is currently under development and it will be available in a future update. Stay tuned to discover more changes in the next updates!
