WhatsApp is testing support for up to three accounts on iOS

WhatsApp is working on an update that expands the multi-account feature from two accounts to three. The feature will still keep chat history, notifications, and settings separate for the third account. Users who manage three phone numbers will finally be able to keep them in the same app.

WhatsApp rolled out multi-account support for iPhone

In the post about the WhatsApp for iOS 26.22.76 update, we announced the multi-account feature for iPhone. With this functionality, users can add a second WhatsApp account to the same app without logging out of the first one. Every account has its own chat history, notifications, backup, and settings. This makes accounts independent from one another. Users can switch between their accounts directly from the app settings.

WhatsApp is now testing support for a third account on iPhone

At the moment, users can add up to two accounts to the same app. Finally, WhatsApp is committed to expanding this limit in the future. We discovered this feature with the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.37.10.15 update, which is available on TestFlight. With this update, WhatsApp is working on a feature that lets users add up to 3 accounts to the same app. This feature will make it easier for users to manage multiple profiles without relying on WhatsApp Business or a secondary phone.

What the three-account sheet looks like

The attached image shows the account selector when multi-account supports up to three profiles. The left screen shows the option to add a second account at the bottom of the interface. The right screen shows the interface when users log into their third profile. The layout is the same as before, so accounts appear with their name, profile photo, and phone number, and the active one has a green checkmark. When this feature becomes available, users will see the "Add account" option even when they have two active profiles in the same app. Note that WhatsApp may support even more than three accounts in the future.

How users will be able to add a third account on WhatsApp

Users will be able to add the third account right within the app settings. Here, they can open the Account List that displays every account added to the device. In this screen, users will find the option to add a new phone number. Users will also be able to add a new phone number by selecting the option "Switch accounts". WhatsApp will handle the third account exactly like the other two, so users do not need to learn anything new.

Users won't need a second device when they can add a third account

Two accounts are enough for many users, but some people may need a third one for different reasons. Someone who has three phone numbers for personal, work, and other purposes already knows that two slots are not always enough. Before WhatsApp released the multi-account feature on iOS, users had to rely on a second phone or the WhatsApp Business app. A third slot will finally expand the multi-account feature to help users who have more than two phone numbers. Users who manage multiple phone numbers will no longer have to choose which account to keep on the same device.

Accounts keep their own separate settings

The three-account system works the same way as the two-account one. Every account on the device has its own chat history, notifications, privacy settings, backup, and media. Users who receive a message on their third account get a notification that shows which account it belongs to. As a result, there is no confusion about where to reply. App Lock also works independently per account, so users can secure their accounts with their own authentication.

WhatsApp is developing three-account support for a future iOS update

The new multi-account feature is currently under development on iOS. Since this functionality is in development, it is not ready for beta testing. This means that users cannot add up to three accounts right now. We expect WhatsApp to make this feature available to some beta testers in a future update. At the moment, WhatsApp has not shared an official timeline for the public release.
