PROFILE ICONS – GROUP CHAT

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.23.0.70 update, we shared information about a new feature available for some lucky beta testers: profile icons of group participants within group chats.
Today, a new update is available on the App Store. The official changelog reports that this update brings communities to everyone (except for people in Brazil) and the ability to create polls (already released after installing the 22.23.76 update), but there is something else new: profile icons of group participants show up to some users within their group chats:

Some users may already be able to use this feature after installing the previous 22.23.77 build from the App Store but this feature is also widely rolling out today. As you can see in this screenshot, you need to open a group to see if this feature is enabled for your account: in case it is enabled, you can see profile icons next to chat bubbles. Thanks to this feature, WhatsApp helps group members recognize other participants that have the same name. As we said in the article about the beta version, the default empty profile photo will show up if a profile photo is not available or is hidden due to privacy settings and it is tinted by using the same color as the contact name.

The ability to view profile icons within group chats has been released to more users that install the latest versions of WhatsApp from the App Store it rolling out to even more people over the coming days.
