In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 184.108.40.206 update, we announced that the ability to pin messages in individual and group chats was available to some beta testers. Thanks to this feature, it’s possible to pin a message to the top of the conversation, making it easier to find it later. We noticed that this enhanced feature has been warmly received by users with the Android update, who have long awaited a new tool to keep important messages within easy reach. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 220.127.116.11 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out this feature to the iOS app as well!
As you can see in this screenshot, a pinned message feature is available in the context message menu and it allows users to pin the selected message to the top of their conversation, simplifying the process of highlighting important or frequently referenced messages. It’s worth noting that this feature is also available in individual chats. In addition, WhatsApp is testing this option by extending availability to users who install the latest versions from the App Store. However, it might take some time before they roll out to a broader audience.
The pinned message option is different than the feature offered by other instant messaging apps since users also have precise control over how long a message remains prominently displayed in their chats. Specifically, they can select from three distinct durations: 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days. Note that it’s possible to dismiss a pinned message at any time, even before the chosen duration elapses. We also think that this feature is very useful in group chats as it makes it easier to ensure that important information and announcements stay readily accessible to all group members.
A feature to pin messages in chats and groups is available to some beta testers who install the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and it’s rolling out to more users over the coming days.
