NEW CALLING BUTTON

WhatsApp continues the project that involves redesigning the interface and improving the various existing features of the application. After starting to roll out the new Updates tab to some users who have installed the previous WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.11.0.74 update, WhatsApp is now introducing small changes for the group chat screen. In particular, after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.11.0.76 update from the TestFlight app, some users may notice a new calling icon within the chat header:

As you can see in this screenshot, a different icon might appear in group chats in case the feature is enabled for your WhatsApp account. This icon still allows group participants to place group calls but it now displays a context menu, allowing them to choose whether to make an audio or video call. In previous updates, an action sheet menu appeared with those two options (or the usual two buttons to place audio and video calls) but, after installing the latest update, the menu has been converted into a context menu.

You can immediately understand if the context menu is available on your account by simply looking at the calling icon in your group chats. If a video call button along with a plus sign above the icon is available, it means the feature is enabled for your account. In our opinion, using a context menu is preferred over an action sheet on iOS due to its enhanced visual appeal. In fact, we think context menus definitely integrate within the interface, providing a clean and elegant design.

The new calling button is available to some beta testers that install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks.
