In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.9.0.77 update, we announced that WhatsApp is working on channels, a new one-to-many tool for broadcasting information from people you wish to get news from. In the same article, we shared a sneak peek by publishing a screenshot to show you the interface of the new status tab. This feature is still in development but, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.11.0.70 update available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp keeps working on improving the interface of the status tab:

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp plans to introduce the Updates tab that includes both status updates and channels. In fact, the new Updates tab is marked within a pinned banner as the new home for status and channels. Some users on the previous WhatsApp beta for Android updates were already able to see the Updates tab, but it didn’t include channels as they are still in development.

If we compare this screenshot with the one published in the previous article, it’s evident that there are many changes in terms of the user interface. Firstly, status updates will be displayed in a horizontal list (as already announced in the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.6 update), prioritizing the visibility of channels on the screen. It is also possible to see the representative icon of a channel in the attached screenshot. Finally, there will be a redesigned icon for the Updates tab to better represent status updates and channels.

The ability to view channels is under development and it is planned to be released in a future update of the app. We will publish another article when we have new details about this feature to share with you.
