Last month, we posted a changelog about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.16.0.75 update: thanks to this update, we discovered that a reaction preview feature was under development. What’s the reaction preview feature? It was a new feature under development that lets us see a text preview of the last reaction sent or received in a certain chat if the last event of the conversation is a reaction.
The feature has already been released to some people after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.16.6 update or newer builds, and WhatsApp is now releasing the same feature to certain iOS beta users that install the latest version from TestFlight!
As you can see in this screenshot, a text preview shows up within a chat cell when the last action within our chats and groups is a reaction. Unfortunately, as we mentioned in the previous article, there is no switch to disable this preview even if you keep disabled “reaction notifications” within WhatsApp Settings > Notifications and we don’t have information about possible future compatibility with that option.
If you install the latest beta from TestFlight, it’s possible to get the feature but if the reaction preview doesn’t show up, it means the feature is not ready for your WhatsApp account and you need to wait for a future update.
WhatsApp is rolling out this feature to some beta testers and, as always, more activations are planned over the coming few weeks.
