Previous news? | WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.22: what’s new? WhatsApp is releasing the ability to add a description to forwarded images, videos, GIFs, and documents! |
Recently, WhatsApp released the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.22 update on the Google Play Store. The update introduced to some beta testers the ability to add a description to forwarded messages after removing their caption, in order to offer a better explanation of the media. Unfortunately, a lot of users were also experiencing an issue with downloading videos after installing the update:

As you can see in this screenshot, it seems it is no longer possible to download videos you receive in your conversation after installing the previous update. In addition, we can confirm that the bug is not limited to videos you receive as it is not even possible to view videos when opening status updates. The issue seems to be widespread, affecting all users that installed the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.22 and 2.23.8.23 updates.
We also reported this issue by posting a tweet on Twitter and we received a lot of reports from users that are experiencing the bug. A few hours ago, the WhatsApp Business beta app was released on the Google Play Store, with build number 2.23.8.24: we can confirm that this is a bug-fix update that addresses the mentioned issue, so you can finally download videos on the business app again. About the WhatsApp Messenger app, the update should be available soon with the same build number and, since the bug is now fixed in the business app, we are confident it will also be fixed in the same version of WhatsApp Messenger.
The fix is rolling out after installing the latest business version of the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.24 update, so be sure to update to this build in order to use a version of WhatsApp without this bug.
