|Previous news?||WhatsApp beta for Android 22.214.171.124: what’s new?|
We posted some information about end-to-end encrypted backups in the WhatsApp beta for Android 126.96.36.199 article.
Today we have news: the feature is still under development (so it will be available in a future update for beta testers), but WhatsApp is bringing more improvements now. In particular, we talked about the possibility to see your encryption key.
In this update, WhatsApp is clarifying that the encryption key can only contain numeric digits and lowercase letters between ‘a’ and ‘f’: being an encryption key, the fact that WhatsApp wants to use the hex format makes sense.
This feature will protect your backup from unauthorized access while on Google Drive: you will be able to protect it with a password that won’t be shared with WhatsApp, Facebook, Google or Apple (yes, because WhatsApp is also working to bring the same feature on WhatsApp for iOS).
It will be available in a future update, so stay tuned to discover when the feature is out for beta testers!
