WhatsApp is rolling out a new update for the desktop client through the official beta channel, bringing the version up to 2.2149.1.
What’s new in this update? The possibility to choose “My Contacts Except…” for your privacy settings is under development for a future update.
|Name of the feature?||My Contacts Except…|
|Availability?||WhatsApp is planning to release this new privacy setting in a future update.|
|I’ve installed this update but I don’t see this feature, why?||Since this feature is under development, it’s not available for the public, but you can discover a preview in this article.|
|Previous news?||WhatsApp beta for Android 184.108.40.206: what’s new?|
After introducing some new measures to protect user privacy, WhatsApp is now developing the possibility to set “My Contact Except…” for your privacy settings right within WhatsApp Web/Desktop!
As you can see in this screenshot, the option “My Contact Except…” will be available for Last Seen, About, Profile Photo. When you select “My Contact Except…” you can choose who cannot see your information on WhatsApp.
This feature will be likely released on WhatsApp Web/Desktop when WhatsApp has completely rolled out the same feature on Android beta and iOS beta.
Note that beta testers cannot see and choose “My Contacts Except…” on WhatsApp Web/Desktop, even if the feature “My Contacts Except…” is already enabled for their WhatsApp account.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a known release date for the feature to be enabled for more users on iOS and Android: I don’t have the feature enabled for my WhatsApp account. When there will be other activations, I’m going to post something here.
