STATUS UPDATES

Today, WhatsApp published a new blog post in order to introduce new features for status updates. Some of these features are not really new but they have been added to the list of recent improvements for status updates to highlight their commitment to improving the user experience. In the post, WhatsApp has also made sure that all these features are secure, with the same end-to-end encryption as chats and calls, ensuring that users can share their updates privately and securely with only the people they choose.

  1. Private Audience Selector: users can quickly choose who views their status updates. This feature adds a more customized experience to the app as users can always control who sees their updates while sharing them.
  2. Voice Status: thanks to this feature, you can easily share voice notes for up to 30 seconds on status. We announced this feature after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.8 update and WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.2.0.70 version from TestFlight. This is definitely the most recent feature released to beta testers.
  3. Status Reactions: react to status updates by choosing an emoji between Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes, Face with Tears of Joy, Face with Open Mouth, Crying Face, Folded Hands, Clapping Hands, Party Popper, and Hundred Points. We announced this feature after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.17.24 update.
  4. Status Profile Rings for New Updates: thanks to this feature, you can easily see if there is any update for status right within the chat list. WhatsApp released this feature to more people after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.19.17 update.
  5. Link Previews on Status: you can share rich link previews when sharing a link as a text status update. WhatsApp announced this feature within the official changelog of the WhatsApp for iOS 22.22.75 update from the App Store.

Note that, even if the screenshot is taken from the WhatsApp for Android app, these features are also available on WhatsApp for iOS and Desktop: update your app from the App Store or Google Play to get them. If you don’t have one or more features from this list, just wait for a future update as they are released to even more people at a later date.

WhatsApp just announced several features for status updates in a new blog post, which are gradually rolling out to everyone over the coming weeks.
