WhatsApp supports text formatting on iOS, Android, and Desktop, for chat messages by placing certain characters before and after the text to format:
- Italics: place an underscore before and after the word or words, for example _WhatsApp_
- Bold: place an asterisk before and after the word or words, for example *WhatsApp*
Strikethrough: place a tilde before and after the word or words, for example ~WhatsApp~- Monospace: place three backticks before and after the word or words, for example
```
WhatsApp```
Alternatively, you can select the text to format and tap the menu action BIU that’s faster than putting a character before and after the word to format. After the iOS 16 update, apps have to call their formatting menu as “Format” instead of BIU: this is why this menu didn’t show up on iOS 16.
