In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.3 update, we shared information regarding a new feature in development to set images and videos as view once messages. With these changes, WhatsApp aims to improve the process in anticipation of new features that will be released in the future. However, the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.3 update also introduced an issue with the widget of the app, and it appears that the problem was widespread:

As you can see in the attached screenshot, the widget isn’t loading and is unable to display the list of the latest incoming messages. A lot of users were experiencing the same bug some weeks ago, and it was fixed in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.17.13 update. Unfortunately, the bug is back after installing the previous update of WhatsApp beta for Android. As we explained in the last article regarding this bug, several users rely on the WhatsApp widget to read incoming messages so they don’t have to open the app every time. Consequently, this issue has been really inconvenient for those users.
Restarting the device doesn’t even resolve the issue, so a new bug fix update was needed to get a final solution, as announced on X. WhatsApp attempted to fix the issue with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.7 update but a lot of users still experienced the bug as the widget was unable to present the list of the incoming messages. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.11 from the Google Play Store, we noticed that it is a bug-fix update and it finally addresses the mentioned issue. This means that you can finally start using the widget of the app without experiencing this bug.
The fix is rolling out after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.11 update from the Google Play Store. Please, make sure to install this build in order to use a version of WhatsApp without experimenting with the bug.
