WhatsApp is still working on new features to improve disappearing messages. After releasing the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.4.12 update, we have discovered hidden references about a new feature that prevents viewing media in your phone’s gallery when disappearing messages are turned on:
As you can see in this screenshot, when the changes take effect in a future update and the user tries to enable “Media Visibility”, the option is not available due to privacy reasons: when disappearing messages are turned on, media is not automatically saved to your phone’s gallery. If you want to see media in your phone’s gallery again, you need to turn off disappearing messages. Note that this does not mean that WhatsApp prevents taking screenshots, since this feature is not supported and it’s not planned, but the new changes, available in a future update, explain why “Media Visibility” cannot be turned on when the chat is in disappearing mode.
