WhatsApp has recently submitted a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.20.83. The 2.20.84 update is available publicly here.
What’s new in these updates? Discover all details below!

  • The Delete Messages feature is not available yet.
  • This feature is under development: it means that WhatsApp is working on this feature and there isn’t any release date available.
  • If you don’t see the update on the Play Store, please be patient until Google will roll out for you (probably according to WhatsApp preferences).

We talked about a new feature under development in the 2.19.275 changelog, that will allow to automatically delete messages in a chat.
We have also explained that this feature had to be a cleaning tool for groups, because WhatsApp removed any reference for private chats, but today WhatsApp has (again) changed their plans.
In these new 2.20.83/2.20.84 updates, WhatsApp has reintroduced the Delete Messages feature for individual chats again.

The user can choose how long new messages will last before they are deleted:

The feature is under development but today we know that, when WhatsApp is going to release the feature, the Delete Messages feature will work for individual chats too.
When the user enables the feature, a clock icon will appear in the bubble:

This feature is under development and it will be available in future.
