In the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.20.163 update, we have discovered that WhatsApp was starting to roll out Messenger Rooms Shortcuts for some Android users. It’s a new Facebook service that offers the possibility to create rooms where you can invite people (using an invite link) to join your video call, even if they don’t have a Facebook account.
WhatsApp has decided to add the feature for some iOS users too in the 2.20.52.6 update, after the global roll out of Messenger Rooms from Facebook:
#MessengerRooms is here and starting to roll out globally. Create or join a room with up to 50 people, with no time limit. #SeeYouHere” https://t.co/VF7iMpQ31K

The first shortcut is available in the attachment picker in the chat, where the Camera action was removed (you can still use the camera widget in the chat bar):
After tapping the Rooms shortcut, WhatsApp will present an alert to introduce the feature:
If you choose to continue, WhatsApp will ask if you want to open Messenger:
WhatsApp also offers a separate Rooms shortcut when you want to call a contact:
We want to clarify again that this feature is available for specific countries and users. Recent reports indicated that the feature was available in the USA, Ghana, Srilanka, Dominican Republic, México. More activations will be following soon.
