Previous news? | WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.11: what’s new? WhatsApp is working on a feature to manage when automatically removing channel media from the device! |

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.14.7 update, we announced a new feature under development: the ability to filter conversations right within the chat list. With this feature, WhatsApp aims to offer users a better tool to filter their chats based on their category. Instead, with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.19.7 update, we announced a new group chat filter feature aimed to provide users with a tool to better manage their group conversations. The feature is still in development on the Android app but we just discovered that WhatsApp is working on bringing the same feature to a future update of WhatsApp Web:

As you can see in this screenshot, the interface is very similar to the one that’s currently under development on WhatsApp for Android: we have three different filters that will allow users to better organize their chats based on unread messages, personal conversations, and group chats. In addition, WhatsApp has plans to bring a new revamped sidebar, that’s very similar to the one available on the native WhatsApp for Windows app.
Implementing a feature that allows users to filter their chats by showing only personal conversations and group chats definitely offers an improved organization: separating these two types of chats can definitely allow users to quickly find certain conversations. In fact, these filters provide efficient navigation and they make it easier for users to locate and engage with the right conversations. Instead, we think that a tabbed sidebar offers users improved navigation capabilities as it provides a clear and organized way to move through the various sections of WhatsApp Web. At the moment, WhatsApp plans to introduce these tabs: Chats, Status, Channels, Comunities, Archive, and Starred Messages.
The new sidebar and the group chat filter feature are under development and they will be released in a future update of WhatsApp Web. As always, we’re going to share an additional article when we have further details about these features to share with you.
