CHAT LOCK
Last month, we shared news regarding a new interface for the web client planned to be released in the future. With the tweaked interface, WhatsApp aims to bring a more modern and visually appealing experience to users, particularly enhancing the aesthetics of the dark theme with a carefully curated color scheme and including tabs for a better navigation. While the new interface is still in development, we discovered that WhatsApp is currently working on bringing a specific tab designed to contain locked chats!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is now in the process of developing a new feature that will allow users to lock their chats on the web client in the future. Locked chats are anticipated to have a dedicated tab, providing an additional level of privacy and security to user conversations. Since the feature is in development, the method for accessing this tab still remains uncertain at this point, and it is purely speculative to suggest that it will likely involve a secret code, potentially with the aim of enabling users to hide this tab.
Implementing a chat locking feature on WhatsApp Web, similar to its counterpart on WhatsApp for iOS and Android, offers several advantages in terms of privacy and security. Users may have discussions containing personal information, confidential details, or sensitive topics that they prefer to keep protected from unauthorized access. By implementing chat locking, users will be able to add an extra layer of security, especially in situations where they are using WhatsApp Web in close proximity to other people and wish to maintain privacy for specific conversations. In addition, we believe that WhatsApp establishes a consistent and standardized security feature across multiple devices and platforms by introducing this feature in the future, especially as these locked chats will be synchronized across all their platforms. This move highlights WhatsApp's commitment to delivering a more secure messaging experience across different devices, reinforcing user trust to privacy and consistency.
The feature to allow users to lock chats is under development and it will be available in a future update of the web client. As always, we have plans to publish an additional article when we have new details to share with you.
