WhatsApp is deprecating the Electron-based Desktop app
A lot of people noticed that WhatsApp changed the icon for the WhatsApp Desktop app from green to gray. Usually, a gray color corresponds to a product that no longer works. Apparently, this is what is going to happen in the future for the desktop application. Some users have already received a warning message within the application. It informed them that the application will stop working soon. As a result, WhatsApp is inviting users to download the native application from the Microsoft Store. However, there are users who would like to continue using the old version of WhatsApp. Since the native application still does not support all the features available in the Electron version, this makes sense. However, there will be no way to use the Electron version in the future, but users can still rely on WhatsApp Web as an alternative.
WhatsApp is introducing a beta version for the web
WhatsApp offers a beta version for the desktop application, but it has never offered a similar service for the web client. However, WhatsApp is now rolling out a new option to sign up for the beta program on the web. Users need to open WhatsApp Web, connect with your device by scanning the QR code, and open the help section. Once users are signed up, they will gradually receive all new features available for beta testers.
WhatsApp is rolling out the beta program to some users
The option to join the WhatsApp Web beta program is available to some users. WhatsApp will make it available more widely over the coming days. Users should open the Help section periodically to find out when they can join the beta program. Note that it is not yet clear which features are available for beta testers and how long it will take to receive them. However, WhatsApp still wants to give beta testers the chance to test new features and provide feedback before the official release.
