WhatsApp introduces a new hub to create and manage events

WhatsApp is rolling out a new page for events, making it simpler for users to create, manage, and review them. Users can open the hub directly from the app settings, where WhatsApp shows a new entry with a badge to make it easy to notice. Users can invite anyone to an event, even people who are not on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp already rolled out events for individual and group chats

In the post about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.3.6 update, we announced a feature to create and share events in individual chats. Previously, events were only available in group chats and communities. This update extended events to individual conversations, making it possible for users to schedule meetings and set reminders. Both participants could see the event details in the conversation and respond to the invitation.

Events are useful, but it is complicated to review them without scrolling the chat list. Users who wanted to see multiple events could not do it without opening their conversation one by one. WhatsApp is now changing this by introducing a dedicated hub for events. We discovered this feature with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.36.5 update, which is available on the Google Play Store. Specifically, WhatsApp is rolling out a new Events section in the app settings. This page lets users create, manage, and review their events from the same screen.

In this section, WhatsApp shows every event the user has created or been invited to. As a result, users can find everything without opening their chats. Users who want to review an upcoming event no longer have to scroll the chat list to find it.

How to create an event from the Events hub

Users who want to create a new event can open the hub and tap "Create event". Here, users can enter a name and an optional description for the event. They can set a start date and time, add an end time, and include a location. Users can also choose whether they want to include a WhatsApp call link. The reminder is set to one hour before the event by default, but users can change it. WhatsApp fills in the host name from the account automatically, and a toggle lets users decide whether guests can bring someone along. To make the event more recognizable, users can also add a cover photo that appears at the top of the event page. Note that users can still create events in their chats and groups.

Anyone can be invited, even without WhatsApp

The guest doesn't need to have an account to accept the invitation. When users create an event, WhatsApp generates a link that anyone can open, even those without an account. Guests who open the link can see the event name, date, and time before they respond. The full location and call link become visible only after they confirm their attendance. To respond, guests who do not have WhatsApp need to enter their name and verify their phone number.

What event details are visible and to whom

The event name, date, time, location, cover photo, and guest list are visible to guests and to WhatsApp. The host can see the name, response, and phone number of every guest to manage the guest list. Guests who confirm can see other attendees' names and responses. However, phone numbers are only visible to those who already have the contact saved. Personal messages and calls on WhatsApp are still end-to-end encrypted, regardless of whether users create events.

Why the Events hub makes event planning simpler

Before this update, users needed to open a specific chat to create an event. After creating the event, they needed to open the same chat to review it. With the new hub, users can finally create and manage their events on the same page. Users can create an event without starting from a chat, and they can find all their events in one place. This feature makes the process more intuitive for anyone who organizes meetups, appointments, or group activities on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is rolling out the Events hub to Android beta testers

This feature is available to some users who install the latest update from the Google Play Store. However, you may not see the new Events hub in the app settings since WhatsApp is gradually rolling it out. If the section does not appear yet, it should become available to more accounts over the coming weeks. WhatsApp has not announced when this feature will be available to everyone.
