In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.23.0.73 update, we shared important information about a new feature under development: the ability to edit messages. Thanks to this feature, users will have up to 15 minutes to edit their messages in order to fix any mistake or include additional information to the original message. The feature is still in development but thanks to the recent WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.4.0.72 update available on TestFlight, we discovered that the company keeps working on the ability to edit messages by adding an “unsupported message” when it is not compatible with your version of WhatsApp:
As you can see in this screenshot, in case you’re on an older version of WhatsApp that’s not compatible with this feature, you will receive a notice within a message in the conversation in the future. In the event you get this message, you need to update your version of WhatsApp to the most recent update available on the App Store or TestFlight. This is needed as you won’t be able to see which messages have been edited from the recipient in case you’re on an older version of the app.
Note that the current version of the feature doesn’t allow users to edit the media caption as it is only compatible with text messages. However, it is possible that WhatsApp will introduce a second version of the feature that includes the ability to edit media captions in a future update of the app.
In addition, this update also fixes a crash that prevented users from playing videos within chats and status in the previous WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.4.0.70 update. In case you are experiencing this issue, we recommend to update to this version by opening the TestFlight app.
WhatsApp is actively working on the development of this feature, and it will be released in a future update of the app. In our opinion, WhatsApp is committed to providing the best possible user experience, and this new feature is really expected to improve the messaging experience of millions of WhatsApp users worldwide. As always, we’re going to post a new article when we have further details to share with you in the future.
