In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.21.6 update, we announced that WhatsApp was releasing a version of the companion mode that makes it possible to link an Android tablet to an existing WhatsApp account. In the past, WhatsApp was not optimized for Android tablets, and users had to rely on some workarounds in order to use the app on their tablets. In September, WhatsApp finally released a compatible version with tablets for some beta testers, but the interface was not tablet-friendly. However, WhatsApp is now rolling out a tweaked interface by bringing a split view to the tablet version:
As you can see in this screenshot, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android tablets has introduced a split view that definitely improves the user experience. Previously, when opening a chat on the tablet version of WhatsApp, the chat view would take up the entire screen, and users had to go back to the chat list every time they wanted to switch to a different conversation. Thanks to the most recent update, the chat list is always visible when opening a chat. The split view is also available within the calls and status tabs but it is definitely more useful for the chats section.
In our opinion, users can easily switch between conversations without losing track of their ongoing chats thanks to the split view. In addition, the split view definitely makes it easier to manage and organize chats because it is possible to quickly scroll through the list of conversations in order to find the one people need without having to exit the current chat.
The tweaked interface for the tablet version is available after installing the latest update of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Play Store. In case it is not available for your WhatsApp account, please wait for a future update as it is rolling out to even more people over the coming days.
