WhatsApp is working on personalized profiles for channel admins

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.35.3 update, we announced a feature that allows channel admins to manage activity notification settings. This feature lets admins control alerts for both follower interactions and admin actions. This allows admins to customize which notifications they want to receive. Follower activity notifications inform admins when new users follow the channel or when updates receive reactions. The system also adapts notifications based on channel size to reduce overload, and admins can disable these alerts at any time.

WhatsApp explores new features to improve channels

WhatsApp is developing new tools to help admins engage more directly with their followers. These upcoming features will introduce new ways to let followers understand who posted a specific update. With the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.37.6 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that lets channel admins create and show a profile.

Channel admins will be able to create a profile

WhatsApp is exploring a feature that lets channel admins display a dedicated profile for their updates. Admins will be able to enable an option to show their profile. When they enable this feature, the admin's name and profile picture will appear alongside the updates they share in the channel. This will let admins present a consistent identity within the channel. In addition, followers will be able to recognize who is posting and how frequently updates are shared.

Personal information is still private

WhatsApp does not use information from the personal user profile to create the channel identify. Instead, admins can create a distinct profile specifically for their role in that channel. This ensures that private account details remain confidential, but it still allows followers to understand who posted an update. This will also allow admins to maintain a personalized presence within the channel without revealing any information from their personal WhatsApp account.

Different profiles based on the channel

Admins will be able to craft their channel profile however they choose. This profile can be different across multiple channels they manage. This means that they are not restricted to using the same identity in every channel. The "Show admin profile" option is turned off by default, so no profile information will be visible until an admin actively enables it. Users will be able to disable this option at any time, giving them control over when and how the information they decided to share is displayed.

Admins will use a separate profile

Admins can maintain a personal profile tailored to the audience of that specific channel. Since the channel admin profile and the personal account profile are separate, users have flexibility when they want to manage multiple channels. The feature will also let admins update or change their channel profile independently at any time. As a result, they will always have full control over what information their followers see. The feature will also make it easier to understand the individual contributions of each admin.

The channel profile will appear right within the channel interface

When enabled, the channel profile will appear consistently on updates. This means that followers can continuously see the admin who is actively posting. However, their privacy will always be preserved since their personal information, including the phone number, are never shared. This means that the admin's phone number will remain hidden even when the admin sets up a profile. This ensures that the channel profile provides identification for updates, but without compromising personal information. Admins will be able to see a live preview of their channel profile within the admin profile creation screen before saving it.

The channel profile feature is under development

The feature that lets channel admins create and show a profile is currently under development. This feature is scheduled for release in a future update. WhatsApp is currently testing how the new admin profile integrates with existing channel layout. Unfortunately, WhatsApp has not shared an official timeline for the public release.
