THIRD-PARTY CHATS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.5.20 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a third-party chat info feature as a result for their chat interoperability support. This feature is designed to display the third-party app name from which the chat originated, providing users with transparency and context regarding their conversations from external platforms. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.6.2 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to manage third-party chats!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently working on the ability to turn off the chat interoperability service, for a future update of the app. This is important as it is required by Article 7 of the EU regulations, which underscore the importance of user control over data sharing and communication preferences. In addition, WhatsApp is developing a feature to allow users to choose which third-party apps should communicate with the app, providing users with autonomy in choosing the extent of their integration with external services.
In our opinion, the ability to selectively choose which third-party apps can communicate with WhatsApp offers users a customized experience, as they can opt for integration with only those services they trust. In addition, the option to disable the chat interoperability service will be important for those who no longer wish to use this feature, as it provides them with the freedom to opt out of the service at any time of their choosing. It is important to highlight that disabling the chat interoperability service means users will lose the ability to send or receive messages in third-party chats. In such instances, their existing third-party chats will transition to a read-only mode, remaining accessible within WhatsApp until they choose to delete them.
The feature to manage third-party chats is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share an additional article once we have further details about this feature.
