WhatsApp news of the week: chat transfer to a new Android device! |
CHAT TRANSFER
Last week, we shared further details about a new feature under development: the chat transfer option. Thanks to this feature, it will be possible to transfer your chat history to a new Android device without using Google Drive, providing you more control over migrating your chats and messages.
The feature is still in development but, thanks to the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.7 update available on the Google Play Store, we discovered something more about the migration process:
In the previous article, we explained how WhatsApp plans to allow users to migrate their chat history on the old Android device in the future: it’s needed to open the chat transfer section and scan the QR Code. The QR code will be visible on the new Android device, as shown in this screenshot. After scanning the QR code, the chat history will finally be migrated to the new Android device. Note that, as we previously mentioned, this feature is limited to work on Android phones so the support to transfer the chat history to an iOS device by using a QR Code is not planned at the moment.
The chat transfer feature is currently in development and a release date has not been announced yet, unfortunately. As always, we will provide updates on its release through an additional article when it becomes available for some beta testers in the future.
