NEW INTERFACE

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.16 update, we shared our first insights regarding a new interface for the app. Specifically, WhatsApp has plans to redesign the top app bar, making it white. While the revamped interface is still in development, WhatsApp keeps working on improving it before the official release to beta testers. In particular, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.18 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp introduced several enhancements to the top app bar for a future update of the app!

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp keeps working on the new interface anticipated with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.16 update. In fact, if we compare this screenshot with the one in the article where we first announced the new design, we can notice that the status bar is also white now. This screenshot also helps us find out that WhatsApp has plans to change the font for its app name in the future, and it will be in green color.

In addition, WhatsApp keeps working on a new feature that will allow users to filter their conversations by sorting their chats to get a list of unread messages, personal conversations, or business chats. For reference, this feature was previously discovered with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.14.17 update, and it aims to provide users with more control when searching through their conversations. We can also notice that WhatsApp is adding some improvements to this interface, as the buttons to toggle these filters now feature much more rounded edges compared to the ones when we first discovered them.

It’s important to note that similar changes are also under development on WhatsApp for iOS, as spotted with the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.17.1.77 update from the TestFlight app. This provides further confirmation that WhatsApp aims to bring both apps in line with a similar interface and the same features, even if the Android app will obviously align with the Material Design 3 guidelines.

The new interface with a white top app bar and a green app name is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we are going to share a new article when we have further information regarding this feature for our readers.
