REDESIGNED FLOATING ACTION BUTTONS
With the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.10.6 update, WhatsApp has started rolling out a redesigned interface with a bottom navigation bar, currently still in a gradual release. That update was the first clue that led us to believe that WhatsApp intended to redesign the entire application, proceeding in small steps to take care of every little detail. In fact, we received further confirmation with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.12.3 update as well, where we announced a new style for toggles that follows the guidelines of Material Design 3. It appears that WhatsApp is indeed committed to following this path: redesigning the application in accordance with the Material Design 3 guidelines. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.12.15 update, we discovered something else regarding a new redesign:
As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp also plans to redesign the floating action button that allows us to quickly start a new chat. The floating action button will follow the Material Design 3 guidelines in a future update of the app: in particular, it appears square with slightly rounded edges. Note that the redesign is not limited to the floating action button shown in the attached screenshot but the same redesign will also be applied to those buttons within the calls and status tabs.
Many users have been requesting a redesign of the application for a long time, and it seems that WhatsApp has finally listened to user feedback. By keeping track of the various improvements to the interface, we can definitely look forward to the possibility of further enhancements regarding the user interface in a future update.
The redesign for floating action buttons is under development and it will be released to beta testers in a future update of the app. As always, we will post an additional article when we have further information to share with you.
