After enabling the support for chat migration from iOS to some Samsung Android phones, users can finally transfer their chat history from another platform. This service was offered by third-party apps that weren’t free and they were unofficial. WhatsApp has finally implemented this feature and you can start migrating your chats and media today.
How to migrate your chat history? You need a new Android phone (at least on Android 10) reset to its factory settings and the most updated Samsung SmartSwitch app.
You need the SmartSwitch app from Samsung because the process for migrating your chats is enabled for certain Samsung Phones only at the moment, and you have to connect your Samsung to your iPhone using a USB-C to Lightning cable (or using any adaptor):
After connecting your Samsung to your iPhone using the cable (https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00087163/), open the Samsung Smart Switch app and follow the directions, so scanning the QR code displayed on your new Samsung phone using your iPhone. After recognizing the QR Code, you can start a process to migrate general data. After reaching the home screen, open WhatsApp from your Android device and log in using your phone number (so the one used on WhatsApp for iOS). The user will be asked for importing the chat history: it’s your moment, confirm the operation and you will see your messages and media on your Android phone.
You will be logged out from WhatsApp on your iPhone because it’s still not possible to use the same account on multiple mobile devices (but this should be available in a future update) and you can start using WhatsApp on your new Android phone after some time.
Unfortunately, it’s still not possible to migrate your chat history to a different Android phone, but WhatsApp is planning this in the future. It’s also not possible to migrate your chat history from Android to iOS right now.
