GROUP CALLING

WhatsApp continues to add improvements to its native desktop applications. After introducing changes to the user interface regarding icons, the app header, and a new green tint color, WhatsApp is now focusing on improving group calls. In previous updates, you may have noticed that it was impossible to start a group call as the button was either disabled or not functioning. Thanks to the latest update available on the TestFlight app, WhatsApp is releasing the ability to place group calls, and it is available to some beta testers!

As you can see in this screenshot, the call buttons are finally available, and we can confirm that it is possible to start a group call. Note that some users may see a different icon within the chat header that combines group calling and video calling into a single button. In addition, you can create a new group call with people that aren’t in the same group: open the calls tab and tap the create call button. In this section of the app, you can create a new group call by selecting the people you want to add to the call. It is possible to select up to 7 people in this section, but up to 32 people can join your group audio calls later. Note that the limit may be different for group video calls.

The feature to place group calls within your groups, along with all other improvements, is available to some beta testers after installing one of the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for macOS from the TestFlight app, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming days.
