WhatsApp is working on a feature to schedule messages
In the post about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.22 update, we announced a feature that lets businesses share marketing messages. With this functionality, businesses can reach more people at once by generating offers and announcements like coupons, deals, and promotions. Marketing messages also offers businesses the ability to choose the right time when the message should be sent, along with other benefits. Starting last year, marketing messages have been rebranded as Business Broadcasts with additional options. Both features help businesses keep their customers coming back through promotions.
Business Broadcasts are a useful tool to help businesses communicate with large audiences. Recognizing the value of these capabilities beyond business use cases, WhatsApp plans to make certain business broadcast benefits available to all users. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.7.10.72 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows users to schedule messages in their chats.

As you can see from the attached image, WhatsApp is developing a feature that will let users schedule their messages, planned for release in a future update. A scheduled message allows users to type a message and choose a specific date and time when it will be sent automatically. Scheduling a message can be useful for reminders, greetings, or important updates users do not want to forget. The message stays queued until the scheduled time arrives. Once the selected time is reached, it is delivered automatically without any further action from the user.
After a message is scheduled, WhatsApp will display it in a dedicated section right within the chat info screen. Here, users will be able to view the number of messages they have scheduled and access options to manage them. It's important to note that users will remain fully in control, as it is possible to delete any scheduled message at any time before it is sent. Deleting a scheduled message does not generate any notification or indication on the recipient's device, since the message is removed before delivery.
Users on WhatsApp for iOS can already schedule messages using the Shortcuts app. This method allows users to create an automation that prepares a message to be sent at a specific time. The process requires selecting the contact, typing the message, and specifying the time within the Shortcuts automation. While this workaround works, it can be considered less convenient than a built-in feature. Finally, WhatsApp is currently developing a native scheduled messages feature that will allow users to schedule messages directly within the app.
With WhatsApp supporting scheduled messages, users will have more control over when their communications are sent. Users won't have to remember when sending important messages at specific times. For example, users can plan messages ahead for birthdays, appointments, or work-related updates. As a result, scheduled messages will improve communication by letting users prepare messages in advance without disrupting their current workflow.
Note that this feature is expected to work in both individual chats and groups. This means that users will be able to schedule a message for a specific contact or an announcement for a group chat. At the moment, there is no news for channels, but it is possible that they will support scheduled updates in the future. While Business Broadcasts already lets users schedule messages, it is a paid feature. Instead, the new scheduled messages feature will enable all users to set messages to be sent automatically for free.
The feature that allows users to schedule messages in their chats is under development, and it's expected to be available in a future update. WhatsApp is currently working on the process of scheduling messages. Once development is complete, the feature will be rolled out to select beta testers, who can provide initial feedback and reports based on their experience.
