LOTTIE STICKERS
Last year, we announced that WhatsApp was exploring a feature to send animated emojis created using the Lottie framework. Thanks to Lottie, a library that empowers designers to create animations while maintaining quality even when proportions are adjusted, WhatsApp aimed to enhance user expression and communication by introducing a dynamic and engaging form of emoji interaction. Although support for animated emojis is still in development, it seems that WhatsApp is also in the process of implementing Lottie support for stickers, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.5.10 update from the Google Play Store.

WhatsApp is now focusing on enriching the sticker experience by adding Lottie support while simultaneously maintaining support for WebP, a widely used image format known for its efficiency and quality. Lottie allows for more complex and dynamic animations compared to WebP images. With Lottie, stickers can include intricate movements, transitions, and effects, making them more engaging and expressive. In addition, Lottie animations can be scaled up or down without losing quality, making them versatile for various chat interfaces and screen sizes.
We believe that the addition of Lottie stickers will bring a whole new level of expressiveness and creativity to our conversations, allowing users to express their emotions and messages with enhanced visual appeal. Users will be able to take advantage of a higher quality experience for stickers thanks to Lottie in a future update, primarily due to its support for vector-based animations. Integrating Lottie into sticker functionality will enable the creation of animated stickers with more fluid motions, vibrant colors, and intricate details, elevating the level of interaction within our chats.
The feature to share Lottie stickers is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We have plans to share an additional article when we have further details about this feature.
