NEW AUDIO AND VIDEO MENU
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.21.1.71 update, we announced a new menu to quickly switch between voice notes and instant video messages. Thanks to this menu, WhatsApp aims to help people prevent unintentional changes regarding the mode used to send the message. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.22.5 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out the same menu even on the Android app!

As you can see in this screenshot, some beta testers may experiment with a new menu to choose between voice notes and instant video messages. It’s important to mention that WhatsApp is also removing the toggle to manage instant video messages with the latest update. This means that the feature will always be enabled by default and users can switch to a different mode opening the menu.
In our opinion, introducing a menu for choosing between audio and video message modes, instead of an automatic switch, provides clear benefits in terms of user control and flexibility. Specifically, we think that allowing users to manually select their preferred mode gives them more control over their communication. This menu also allows users to pick the mode that better suits their current needs, whether it’s a voice note or an instant video message. It’s also worth noting that automatic switching can occasionally result in unintentional mode changes. Instead, users can be sure that the mode they choose is the one they will use with a dedicated menu, reducing the possibility of unexpected switches.
The new menu to switch between audio and video message mode is available to some beta testers who install the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and it’s rolling out to more people over the coming days.
