ADVANCED PROXY SETTINGS
In January, we shared important information regarding a feature that allows users to set up a proxy. A proxy serves as an intermediary between your device and the Internet. When you opt to use a proxy, your Internet requests are first directed to the proxy server. The proxy server then retrieves the requested information on your behalf and delivers it back to you. This feature is helpful to keep the service up in those countries where government censorship is prevalent, and WhatsApp wants to allow everyone to securely connect again without restrictions. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.10 update from the Google Play Store, some beta testers may experiment with advanced proxy settings:

As shown in the attached screenshot, it is now possible to configure proxy ports. Setting a specific port usually isolates the traffic from other network services running on different ports, ensuring the independent operation of the proxy without conflicts with other applications. In addition, the organization implementing the proxy may apply firewall rules or access controls that further restrict connections only through the designated port, enhancing security and control over access.
You may also notice a new option called TLS, which stands for Transport Layer Security. TLS provides users with enhanced security for communication over a network. Enabling TLS for a proxy port ensures that data transmitted between the client and the proxy is always encrypted. However, it’s important to note that even if you choose to use a proxy with TLS disabled, your messages remain end-to-end encrypted. In addition, some beta testers may also be able to export their proxy configuration, so they can share it with other contacts.
The feature that provides users with advanced proxy settings is available to some beta testers that install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android update from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming days. Note that the same feature may also be available to some beta testers on WhatsApp beta for iOS. However, we plan to publish a separate article when the feature is widely released to more beta testers.
