NEW ARCHIVE
We explained many times that WhatsApp was working to improve Archived chats, in order to stop unarchiving them when new messages arrive.
This feature was called Vacation Mode the first time. It has been renamed to Read Later during the development and, as announced in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.5.4 update, WhatsApp has renamed it to Archived Chats again.
The feature is not available yet because it's under development, but WhatsApp is preparing some UI improvements for the Archived Chats cell, that will be visible only if you have any chats in your archive. If you have a chat in the archive, the cell will be always pinned to the top.
Note that all notifications from Archived chats will be automatically muted.
WhatsApp is preparing an update that brings a new experience for your Archive: when you receive a message from archived chats, they won't be unarchived anymore.
This is optional. It will be available in a future update for iOS and Android.

As shown in these screenshots, if you have any new message from your archived chats, you will see a counter in the cell, the same if you have a mention from a group chat.
The feature will be available in a future update: stay tuned to follow the development with us!
