KaiOS is a Linux-based mobile operating system installed on non-touch devices, having a longer battery life.
As of Febrary 2018, KaiOS Technologies has acquired many new partners, including Facebook, as announced in a blog post.
As reported in the blog post, Facebook has released a new Facebook app for KaiOS:
“The highly-coveted social media app has made its way to KaiOS-powered feature phones. This partnership supports access to Facebook via a native KaiOS app, allowing more users to connect with their friends and families in meaningful ways – it even opens the doors to new opportunities in education, business and community building. Another step toward closing the digital divide!”
The same has been announced in the official Facebook India page:
After stopping the support for BlackBerry OS and Windows Phone 8, WhatsApp is focusing to develop the app for this platform, providing an app for Jio Phones.
Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers.
Actually we don’t know when the new native KaiOS app will be available and which functionalities it will offer to the user.
We remember WhatsApp will stop to support Nokia S40 on next December 31, leaving the Symbian platform, but KaiOS will be supported instead.
