STATUS UPDATES - CHAT LIST

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.13.9 update, we shared the details about a new feature under development: the ability to view status updates right within the chat list. This feature aimed to make it easier for users to keep track of their contacts' status updates without having to open the Status tab. The feature was still under development at the time, but WhatsApp didn't take long to finalize and release it. After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.18.17 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out this feature to select beta testers!

As shown in the screenshot accompanying the update, when a contact uploads a new status update, it will now be visible directly within the chat list. Instead of having to open the Status tab, you'll see a ring around their profile picture in the chat list, indicating they have posted a new status. Users can simply tap their profile picture to view the status update. This small but significant change enhances the user experience, making it quicker and more intuitive to engage with status updates while checking your regular messages. It is worth noting that, for those who may not be fans of the new feature, particularly users who don't post or view status updates frequently, WhatsApp has thought of a solution. If you find the integration of status updates into your chat list distracting or unnecessary, you can easily mute all status updates. Once muted, these updates won’t appear in your chat list anymore, giving you the same chat interface you’re used to.

WhatsApp is beginning to roll out this feature to a select group of beta testers today. However, WhatsApp also plans to gradually activate it for more users in the coming weeks, so if you don't have access yet, don’t worry as it's on its way! Additionally, while this feature is being released on WhatsApp beta for Android, it's expected that it will also become available to some beta testers using WhatsApp beta for iOS in the near future. This cross-platform rollout ensures that users on both major mobile operating systems will soon be able to enjoy this new feature. Keep an eye out for future updates!
