WHATSAPP PREMIUM
In May, we announced that WhatsApp was planning to release a subscription plan for businesses: WhatsApp Premium. Thanks to WhatsApp Premium, businesses can take advantage of some advanced features such as a better way to be reached by customers and some improvements when linking new devices. This week, WhatsApp is finally releasing the subscription plan for certain businesses that install the latest beta version of the Android and iOS app available on the Play Store and TestFlight!
WhatsApp Premium is an optional premium plan available for certain business accounts that they can join by opening WhatsApp Settings: if there is a new section called "WhatsApp Premium" here, it means the business account is eligible to join the plan. When a business joins WhatsApp Premium by paying a certain subscription fee that may vary by the country, it is possible to use two new advanced services:
- A custom business link: it is a unique short link that lets customers view the landing business page and easily start a conversation by opening a custom link, for example, https://wa.me/mybusiness that's possible to change once every 90 days. Note that it expires when you cancel your subscription so other businesses may claim it later. By choosing a custom link that matches the business name, businesses help customers remember their business link better.
- Important improvements for multi-device: businesses that join WhatsApp Premium are able to link up to 10 devices so it is easier for them to manage their conversations when more people in the business are using the same WhatsApp account to message their customers.
Note that all current features are still free for businesses: WhatsApp Premium is only an optional plan to give some features to businesses that need certain advanced services so if you do not join, your current experience while using the business app won't change. If you join WhatsApp Premium, you can unsubscribe from the plan at any time from the App Store or Play Store and you can take advantage of the premium subscription until the end of the billing period. In addition, since this is an exclusive business feature, we can say for sure that WhatsApp Premium won't be released to users that use the customer app.
WhatsApp Premium has been released to some businesses in certain countries that install the latest versions of WhatsApp Business beta for Android and iOS. Since it is rolling out to certain businesses in select countries, don't be surprised if you do not see "WhatsApp Premium" within WhatsApp Settings. WhatsApp plans to widely roll out the premium plan to more business accounts in the future and we will let you know when it is out in a new article or tweet as usual.
