In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.1.4 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a feature to share status updates from companion devices. Through this feature, users can share images, videos, GIFs, text, and voice messages via status updates from any linked mobile device, enhancing their ability to communicate and share updates without being tethered to a single primary device. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to offer Mac users the same opportunity to share status updates from linked devices as it does for the Android version. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Mac 24.11.73 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out the feature to share status updates from the desktop app!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can now explore a new feature to share updates directly from the status tab by installing the latest update of WhatsApp beta for Mac from TestFlight. This feature was previously unavailable on the Mac app, as users were only able to view status updates but not post them. This marks a significant enhancement in functionality and brings the desktop experience in line with the mobile version.

In our opinion, offering users the ability to share status updates directly from the Mac app provides independence from the mobile device. Users can now manage their status updates directly from their Mac, making it more convenient for those who spend a significant amount of time on their desktop. This reduces the need to switch between devices, enhancing the user experience for sharing updates. In addition, it allows users to share status updates without relying on their mobile device being powered on or having an active Internet connection. We believe that this feature also ensures that the multi-device experience on WhatsApp remains consistent. By enabling the same capabilities across both mobile and desktop platforms, WhatsApp ensures that users have a uniform experience regardless of the device they are using.

The feature to share status updates from the desktop app is available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Mac from the TestFlight app, and it's rolling out to more people over the coming days.
