WhatsApp introduces status updates on Mac
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.1.4 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a feature to share status updates from companion devices. Wirth this feature, users can share images, videos, GIFs, text, and voice messages via status updates from any linked mobile device. This enhances their ability to communicate and share updates, as users no longer need to rely on their primary device.
It appears that WhatsApp now intends to offer Mac users the same opportunity to share status updates from linked devices as it does for the Android version. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Mac 24.11.73 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out the feature to share status updates from the desktop app!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can now explore a new feature to share updates directly from the status tab. This feature was previously unavailable on the Mac app. In particular, users were only able to view status updates but not post them. This brings a significant enhancement to the desktop experience, as users can finally share updates without relying on the mobile app.
The ability to share status updates directly from the Mac app provides independence from the mobile device. Users can now manage their status updates directly from their Mac, making it more convenient for those users who spend a significant amount of time on their desktop. This reduces the need to switch between their devices. This feature also ensures that the multi-device experience on WhatsApp remains consistent. By enabling the same capabilities on WhatsApp for Mac, WhatsApp ensures that users have a uniform experience regardless of the device they are using.
The feature to share status updates from the desktop app is available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Mac from the TestFlight app, and it's rolling out to more people over the coming days.
