REPORT STATUS UPDATE

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.1.27 update, we announced a new feature under development: the ability to report status updates. Thanks to this feature, it would have been possible to report unwanted status updates that may violate the company’s Terms of Service, in addition to the already available feature to report messages. The feature was also in development on WhatsApp beta for iOS and it is now rolling out to some users that install the latest update from the TestFlight app:

As you can see in this screenshot, it is easy to discover if the feature is already enabled for your WhatsApp account: open a status update and view its options. In case you see an option called “Report”, it means this feature is available for your account. You can use this option to report anything that may violate the Terms of Service and the status update will be reported to the moderation team.

As mentioned in our previous article when the feature was under development, the introduction of this feature maintains the integrity of end-to-end encryption, ensuring that messages, media, location sharing, calls, and status updates are all protected by end-to-end encryption on all devices. Thanks to end-to-end encryption, the content of your messages and private calls remain inaccessible to anyone, including WhatsApp, Meta, or any third-party proxy provider. The report feature for status updates plays a crucial role to maintain the platform safe and secure for all users, and it is worth noting that this feature is not uncommon, as other instant messaging apps offer similar reporting features.

The ability to report status updates to the moderation team is available to some beta testers that install the latest beta version of the app, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming days.
