COMMUNITIES LIST

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.1.11 update, we announced that a feature to simplify group chat and community creation was available. This update centralizes all creation tools within the Chats tab, allowing users to start new chats, create groups, and establish communities from a single location. As part of this change, WhatsApp has introduced banners guiding users to the new community creation options while also removing the floating action button from the Communities tab. It seems that WhatsApp is further working on improving community management within the Chats tab to enhance convenience even more. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.7.2 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to create a list to manage community groups from the Chats tab!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can explore a new feature that asks them whether they want to add a dedicated list to quickly filter their community group chats from the rest of their conversations. This bottom sheet will appear the first time users open the Communities tab, but they can still repeat the process later through a banner displayed at the top of the community group chats list. If users confirm the operation, WhatsApp will automatically create a new list specifically for communities, enabling them to filter their chats and display only their community group chats in one place.

This filtering feature will essentially represent the new "Community Home", preserving the main functionality that has always defined the Communities tab. By introducing this dedicated filter within the Chats tab, WhatsApp ensures that users can still easily access and manage their communities without navigating through unrelated chats. For those users who initially choose not to add the community group chat list or later decide to remove this filter from the Chats tab, WhatsApp also provides an easy way to restore it. At any time, users can navigate to the app settings and drag the available preset into their list section to regain quick access to their communities. This ensures flexibility, allowing users to customize their chat organization according to their preferences, as they may change over time.

This migration is part of the current strategy to replace the Communities tab with a new place dedicated to AI-powered chats, as mentioned in the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.1.24 update. With the Communities tab removed, WhatsApp is refining the Chats tab to accommodate both personal and community-related conversations while introducing AI-powered features in a separate section in the future. This redesign aims to create a cleaner and more organized user interface while still ensuring that community interactions remain easily accessible without the dedicated section for community group chats.

A feature to create a list to manage community groups from the Chats tab is available to some beta testers who install the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks.
