EVENT REMINDERS - COMMUNITY GROUPS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.20 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out an event feature for community group chats. With this feature, WhatsApp enables community members to create and manage events directly within their group chats. Users can easily schedule online meetings, gatherings, or other activities, complete with details like event name, description, date, and optional location. It appears that WhatsApp aims to further refine this feature by implementing more options to improve the user experience. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.5 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on an event reminder feature for community group chats!
As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is testing a new option to allow users to set reminders for their events, scheduled for release in a future update of the app. Through reminders, community admins will be able to ensure that members stay updated and engaged with scheduled events, choosing when they will be notified whether it's 30 minutes, 2 hours, or even 1 day before the event. It's important to note that community admins will be able to select up to 2 options for notification timing, providing flexibility in catering to the varied preferences and schedules of community members.
In our opinion, this feature will provide users with the flexibility to set customized reminders for upcoming events, helping to avoid missed gatherings or meetings. Additionally, community admins will be able to send out timely notifications to all participants who accepted to attend the event, ensuring that they are prepared and aware of the event details. This ensures that all attendees will always be kept informed and reminded of the upcoming event, as well as providing an enhanced experience for both organizers and participants.
An event reminder feature for community group chats is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We plan to publish an additional article when we have further information to share with you.
