FILLED ICONS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.12 update, we announced that a revamped interface was finally available to a limited number of beta testers. Thanks to the tweaked interface, some beta testers could experiment with a new top app bar, new colors, and new icons to offer users a more modern experience. However, it appears that WhatsApp is also interested in examining how the old icons look within the new interface. In fact, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.23.10 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out filled icons!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, filled icons are available again with the latest update, and they are the same icons we are already familiar with from the previous design, but they now come with the new interface. It's important to mention that these icons are not only available when viewing the message options but even throughout the whole chat info screen. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that some users may be part of ongoing experiments with alternative styles: it seems that WhatsApp is conducting various tests among its user base to gather feedback and discern the most preferred design.
In our opinion, WhatsApp is dedicated to enhancing the app's interface by listening to user feedback. When WhatsApp introduced the new icons in their latest interface, some users expressed dissatisfaction with these changes. As mentioned above, we think that reverting to the previous style might help WhatsApp gain a better understanding of user preferences and it could potentially become the default choice. Note that, after installing this update, more beta testers may now experiment with voice chats, a feature that was released in some groups and limited to certain users with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.16.19 update.
Filled icons with the new interface are available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and they may be released to more people over the coming weeks.
