CALL LINKS

On September, 26, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Facebook that a new feature would have been released this week: call links. Thanks to call links, it is possible to generate a link for a call to share with other people, so they can join the call with a single tap. The feature has also been announced by Will Cathcart on Twitter and he included some more details: the feature is compatible with both audio and video calls. We also spotted some details about this feature during the development of the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.6.5 update. Today, thanks to the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.21.13 update, WhatsApp is finally rolling out the ability to create call links to some beta testers!

As you can see in this screenshot, it is easy to check if the feature is already available for your WhatsApp account: just open the calls tab and if you see a new row called "create call link" that allows creating a link for a call, it means you can finally start using the feature! When you create a link for a call, you can choose the type of the call (voice or video) and the call will be automatically converted to a group call when more than two people joined the call.
Compared to Messenger Rooms, which have been removed from WhatsApp last year, a WhatsApp account is always needed to join the call. In addition, calls created by using a link are still protected by end-to-end encryption so people that didn't join the call cannot listen to their content. Note that when you share a call link, your phone number will be shared with the people that join the call so you should share it only with people you trust.

If this feature is not available for your account after updating the app to the latest beta from Google Play, please try killing the app: this may help receive the feature. If the create call link row still doesn't show up, just wait for a future update.
This feature is released to some beta testers and more people will be able to generate a link for a call over the coming days.
